The Methow River Needs HELP!

Methow Debris

Methow Debris

First my home burned (as well as many other families), then what was left was washed away by floods, and then those floods destroyed private fisheries I had been developing for more than a decade. As if that wasn’t enough the floods continued pelting hillsides and canyons destabilized by fire, resulting flash flooding wiped out houses pushing debris and sediment into the lower three quarters of the Methow killing large numbers of fish and aquatic life of all types.

The resulting damage to the Methow river is mostly a natural “once in a lifetime” event, however the impacts will be felt for years to come. While natural disaster can be an overwhelming nightmare we have to keep our chins up and do what we can for each other and the Valley/River we love. Which is why Methow Fishing Adventures is teaming up with the Globetrouters as well as other local river and fishing guides to remove as much man made debris from the river as possible before spring run-off makes the situation worse.

Consider this a challenge not unlike the “ice-bucket” challenge, only this has a good reason behind it. The following pictures are from a trip with I did with my friends Brandon and Grahm of the Globetrouters in the middle section of the Methow. We will be working through-out the fall and winter, if you are interested in helping just drop us a line.

Pictures are intended to act as a visual reminder of what you might expect to catch on this stretch of the Methow if we don’t get out there and do what we can. If you can’t make it to the Methow then let this encourage you to pick up your local waters, trails, whatever. If not us then who?
