Here is this weeks K-ROOT Fishing Report with Deputy Don, Thomas and Leaf. Happy Fall Yawl!
Methow River Fly Fishing Report
Has fishing been good lately? Uhm no…fishing has been outlandishly outstanding that’s all. Yes there is mud and there is debris through-out the river from Beaver Cr. Down but fishing has remained unfazed and some would say better than average. Whether it’s the rain making fish move or just the lack of food in the lower section is uncertain, what I do know is fish are wasting no time moving up which has spread them through-out the system quickly leading to great fishing in all parts of the river.
Skating has been great and is now shifting to a small bug seen, like the drakes in a 12. Swinging, productive as always and nymphing as always at this time of the year is all about the egg/stone combo as many summers are still attempting to drop their eggs even in pour spawning sub-straight choked by mud.
Coho season remains open through November 30th with many nice fish being taken still as a bi-catch in a good day of steelheading. Steelhead will remain open through March unless otherwise informed. If you are interested in booking a trip or just need some tips feel free to drop us a line, enjoy the fall and Fish On Yawl!
KTRT 97.5 Methow Fishing Report
Methow River Fishing Report
Yes fishing has been incredible lately, from the mouth to Winthrop fish are being caught; Coho, Steelhead, trout, it’s all been in a day’s catch. As well as variety in catch there has been variety in gear selection, I have hooked fish in every fashion from swing to nymph to my favorite the skated bug. It would be hard to ask for a better fall fishery than the one on the Methow and after the summer we have seen around here it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Fish at the lower end of the river especially the Coho are much brighter and spunkier, not to say they are looking bad at the top end though either. Fishing pressure has been light and as for now the water is clear through-out the system although the bottom is silt covered below Beaver creek. Flow is low though so I would recommend walk and wade fishing, there is quite a bit of public land that is not marked on the Methow so just take your time and look around.
Hot patterns have been pink, chartreuse, black, white and purple on the swing, stones and egg patterns on the nymph and red or orange Fuzzy Wuzzies or large Chubby Chernobyl patterns on the skate. Top of the Hole at rivers end, middle in the middle stretches and walking speed water in the rivers upper sections.
River clean-up efforts still go on so while you’re out on the water if you see some debris you could remove please feel free to lend a hand. There are still giant dumpsters at the “Carlton Hole” in Carlton as well as the “20 mile launch” by the 20 mile marker south of Carlton and you can throw any flood related debris there, every little bit would help. Thank you for caring for the river.
