Weekly Methow Fishing Report

Winter has come to the Methow, we have snow on the ground and flows while still higher than average are back where they should be. Air temp has been in the mid to upper twenties and the water has been in the upper thirties. For now there is snow on the ground making for an especially pleasing backdrop to a nice day on the water.

It is still productive and fun to fish from a boat right now, however snow will be an issue in many boat launches. Fish are spread out through-out the river with most from Carlton down to the mouth. Water will be warmer further up river so good fish can come down to water temp and river mile with finding sweet spot between numbers of fish and warmer water.

Fish are still taking stones as well there are just a few Coho left spawning so eggs are still in the drift as well. For the most part however Chironomids have been the hot bug as of late though. I prefer to use chironomids in tandem with a two headed heavier bug on top and a lighter single head dropper. Colors that work best for me are black or red body with white heads, lately black has been best.
